I got a chance to try the tag links and they work great. The article is right, for the type of weblog /fotoblog I write, the calendar doesn't make much sense. I did add Geo tags back to my site which 1.5 dropped. The plug-in for it adds a drop down so you can pick a location for each post. Since I am always posting from odd locations - that is great.
